Mumbai Metro Line 2B: Colossus Wins Big With RS 33 Crore E&M Contract

In a significant development for Mumbai's metro infrastructure, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has awarded Colossus Infra Projects Pvt. Ltd. a Rs. 33 crore contract. This contract, designated under package CA-249, is for executing the electrical and mechanical (E&M) work at five key stations of the Yellow Line (Line 2B) of the Mumbai Metro project.

The stations that will see this critical work executed are:

1. Diamond Nagar
2. Shivaji Chowk
3. BSNL
4. Mankhurd
5. Mandale

Currently, the construction of these stations is being carried out by NCC Ltd. under Package CA-07.

Bidding Process

The journey to awarding this contract began in February when the MMRDA issued a tender for the E&M work on Line 2B, with an estimated cost of Rs 30.04 crore and a completion deadline of 2.7 years. The technical bids were opened on 31 May, revealing two contenders. Following this, the financial bids were opened on 18 June, where Colossus emerged as the lowest bidder.

The financial bids were as follows: Colossus bid Rs 35.60 crores, and Jackson bid Rs 37.99 crores.

Despite Colossus's bid being approximately 18.50 per cent higher than the estimated budget, MMRDA negotiated and issued a Letter of Acceptance for a final contract value of Rs 33.95 crore.

Scope Of Work

Under this contract, Colossus will be responsible for the design, manufacture, supply, testing, commissioning, and training of personnel for the E&M works on Line 2B. This work includes a 2-year Defect Liability Period (DLP) to ensure the quality and durability of the installations. The section from Mandale to Diamond Garden, which includes the five stations mentioned, will be the first segment to become operational on this line.

Line 2B spans a total distance of 23.649 kilometres with 22 elevated stations, connecting D.N. Nagar to Mandale via Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC). This line aims to ease congestion and improve connectivity across Mumbai, enhancing the daily commute for thousands of residents.
