Mumbai Local Update: Mega Weekend Block Affects Grant Road to Mumbai Central Services

Mumbai's suburban rail network will see widespread disruption this weekend as Western Railway and Central Railway undertake key maintenance and infrastructure works.

The planned mega blocks, stretching from late Saturday night into Sunday, will affect services on Western, Central and Trans Harbour routes. A large number of local trains will be cancelled or diverted, and commuters are advised to plan their travel accordingly.

Western Railway: Weekend block for bridge rebuilding and flyover removal

Western Railway has scheduled extensive work between Grant Road and Mumbai Central to replace old girders at Bridge No. 5. The bridge, constructed during the British period, has reached the end of its usable life and requires structural renewal.

Alongside this, demolition work will also be carried out at the Prabhadevi railway flyover, leading to an additional block on the slow line.

Block for Bridge No. 5 reconstruction

Affected section: Grant Road to Mumbai Central
Affected lines: Up and Down slow
Block duration: 13 hours
Block timing: Saturday 11 pm to Sunday 12 noon

During this period, slow line local trains in both directions will operate via fast lines.

Block for Prabhadevi flyover demolition

Affected section: Grant Road to Mumbai Central
Affected line: Down slow
Block duration: 7.5 hours
Block timing: Saturday 11.30 pm to Sunday 7 am

Stations where locals will skip halts

Because of the ongoing work, local trains will not stop at the following stations during the block hours:
Mahalaxmi
Prabhadevi
Matunga Road
Lower Parel
Mahim

Passengers travelling to these stations should consider alternate routes or transport options.

Western Railway service changes

• 145 local trains will remain cancelled
• 76 local trains will operate with partial cancellations

Additional operational changes include:
• 14 Up fast locals will terminate at Dadar and return from the same station
• 62 Up slow locals will terminate at Bandra and begin their return journey from there

Central Railway and Trans Harbour services to be affected on Sunday

Central Railway has also announced blocks on Sunday impacting both the main line and the Trans Harbour corridor. Some services will be cancelled, while others may run behind schedule.

• Slow line locals will be diverted to fast lines

Block timing: 11.10 am to 4.10 pm

Impact on services

• Local trains between Thane and Vashi, Nerul and Panvel will be cancelled during block hours

No disruption on Harbour line:

Train services between Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus and Panvel or Vashi will operate without any block.
