Mumbai Local Trains Update: Central Railways Announces 63hr Mega Block Starting Today; 930 Trains Cancelled
People living in Maharashtra, especially those who travel by train, may face some trouble for the next couple of days as the Central Railway has announced a 63-hour mega block. The railway mega block will commence on May 31 and more than 930 local trains have been canceled.
According to the Central Railways, the big decision of block has been taken to facilitate platform extension and widening projects at two major railway stations: Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) in south Mumbai and Thane station.

If works get finished on time, the mega block will end on Sunday at 3:30 pm.
According to a report, more than 30 lakh commuters travel by local trains daily across four corridors (Main, Harbour, Trans-Harbour, and Uran) and the mega blockage may turn out to be a mega problem. However, repair work and development work is necessary.
Talking to the media, Central Railway's Mumbai division manager Rajneesh Goyal said "A 63-hour mega block for the widening of platforms 5 and 6 (in Thane) will start from Thursday midnight while a 36-hour block for the works related to the extension of platforms 10 and 11 (at CSMT) will kick in from Friday midnight."
The Central Railway will cancel 930 local train services of which 161 will be cancelled on Friday, 534 on Saturday, and 235 on Sunday, PTI reported.
Sharing more details on train cancellations, chief public relations officer of Central Railways Swapnil Nila said, 72 mail-express trains and 956 suburban trains on the main and Harbour corridors will remain cancelled from Friday to Sunday.
"There will be unavoidable cancellation of suburban trains. Hence, we request all the establishments to allow your staff to work from home or any other means possible to reduce the number of passengers on these days," Nila said.
