Mumbai Local Train Update: Mega Block on Western Line to Cancel 215 Services Over Two Days

Mumbaikars are set to face travel disruptions over the next two days as the Western Railway implements a major mega block between Kandivali and Borivali.

The block, linked to ongoing work on the sixth railway line, will directly impact local train operations, with a total of 215 services scheduled to be cancelled. The move is expected to inconvenience lakhs of daily commuters travelling from the western suburbs.

Mega Block Near Kandivali Station Today and Tomorrow

According to Western Railway officials, construction work on the sixth line between Kandivali and Borivali is progressing at a fast pace. To facilitate this, phased blocks are being carried out between 20 December and 18 January. As part of this plan, a major block has been scheduled on Tuesday night extending into early Wednesday morning.

The railway administration clarified that the block is essential to carry out critical infrastructure work near Kandivali station, including track-related and technical upgrades.

Which Lines Will Remain Closed and When

Train movement on the Up fast line will remain suspended from 12 midnight to 5.30 am, while the Down fast line will be closed from 1 am to 4.30 am during the block period.

On Tuesday night and early Wednesday, 46 Up-line and 47 Down-line local services will be cancelled, taking the total to 93. Additionally, throughout Wednesday, another 63 Up-line and 59 Down-line services will be cancelled, pushing the total number of affected local trains to 122 for the day.

Heavy Inconvenience Expected for Commuters

With a large number of services cancelled, significant inconvenience is expected during peak morning and evening hours. Many commuters may be forced to rely on alternative transport options, while crowding at stations is also likely to increase.

The railway administration has advised passengers to check the updated local train schedule before travelling and to use alternate routes where possible. Officials added that once the sixth line becomes operational, train movement on the Western Railway corridor will become smoother and more efficient. Until then, commuters will have to endure these temporary disruptions.

Western Railway has confirmed that the block will be carried out near Kandivali station as per the following schedule:

• Up Line: 7 and 8 January, from 12 midnight to 5.30 am
• Down Line: 7 and 8 January, from 1 am to 4.30 am

Impact on Local Train Services

Due to track linkage and technical works during the block, several local services on the Western line have been cancelled. Early morning trains heading towards Churchgate and services running between Borivali and Virar will be most affected.

A detailed list of cancelled trains has been made available at the Station Master's office at all railway stations.

Possible Impact on Long-Distance Trains

Some long-distance trains entering Mumbai during early morning hours may face delays or could be halted at nearby stations because of the block. Passengers travelling by long-distance trains have been advised to check updated schedules on the official railway app before starting their journey.
