Mumbai Local Train Services News: Delays Spark Calls For Senior Officials In Kalyan

Mumbai, often referred to as the city that never sleeps, relies heavily on its local train service, known as Mumbai's lifeline, to keep the city moving. However, in recent days, delays in the local trains on the Central Railway line have caused significant congestion, leading to widespread frustration among commuters. This issue has become a hot topic of discussion, especially for those travelling from suburbs like Thane, Kalyan, Dombivli, and Badlapur, as well as from Karjat.

Technical Glitches And Delays

Mumbai Local Train Services News

The delays are primarily attributed to recurring technical glitches, which disrupt the schedule of local trains every few days. As a result, passengers are left with no choice but to express their anger and frustration. In response to this ongoing problem, travel associations have proposed that at least one senior railway officer be stationed in Kalyan to manage the confusion and address issues more effectively. However, senior railway officials have been reluctant to relocate from Mumbai to Kalyan.

Call For Senior Railway Officer

Many commuters, known as Chakarmani, travel daily from Badlapur and Kalyan to reach their workplaces in Mumbai. Despite this, railway officials who reside in South Mumbai have shown little willingness to commute to Kalyan daily. These officials, working from their headquarters in Mumbai, seem unaware of the chaos and hardships faced by passengers due to train delays. Hence, it is crucial for higher railway officials to address this situation directly.

Administrative Hurdles

Currently, if travellers or travel associations wish to lodge complaints, they must approach the Public Relations Officer in Mumbai. Travel organizations argue that having senior officials based in Kalyan would make it easier for passengers to file complaints and have them addressed promptly.

Government And Central Railway Operations

Millions of people depend on Mumbai's local trains daily. The railway operations fall under the jurisdiction of the Central Government, with most decisions made at the senior level in Delhi. Despite this, local representatives and travel associations have little influence over these decisions. There is a persistent demand that the views of local representatives, travel associations, and local bodies be considered to improve local train services in Mumbai.

Reluctance Of Senior Railway Officials

The demand for senior railway officers to be posted in Kalyan has been repeatedly raised by MPs and local representatives, but it has consistently been overlooked by the central government. Many senior railway officers, primarily from North India or other regions, prefer staying in South Mumbai for convenience. As a result, no high-ranking railway official is willing to be stationed in Kalyan, despite its significance as the gateway to Mumbai on the Central Railway line. Commuters believe that if an officer of ADRM or AGM rank were stationed at Kalyan, the daily chaos could be better managed.

MPs such as Anand Paranjape, Sanjeev Naik, Suresh Tavere, and Baliram Jadhav have all tried to address this issue, but their efforts have not led to any substantial changes. The demand for improved local train services and the stationing of senior officials in Kalyan remains a pressing concern for Mumbai's daily commuters.
