Mumbai Local Train Services Mega Block: 73 Trains Canceled In 35-Hour Block Between Kandivali And Borivali
Rail passengers using the Western Railway (WR) line should prepare for significant disruptions between April 26 and 28, as WR authorities carry out a major 35-hour rail block between Kandivali and Borivali stations. The block, set to begin at 1pm on Saturday, April 26, and continue until midnight on Monday, April 28, is part of a critical infrastructure upgrade project aimed at improving the capacity of the rail network.
The primary reason for the rail block is the re-girdering of Bridge No 61, located between the two stations. This large-scale engineering operation will involve replacing the girders over the 5th line, the Kandivali Carshed line, and the Yard line on the eastern side of the track. The work is part of WR's broader plan to enhance the railway infrastructure, which will eventually allow for more trains and better capacity on this busy corridor.

As a result of the 35-hour block, passengers can expect disruptions to suburban train services. WR's chief public relations officer, Vineet Abhishek, confirmed that 73 services will be cancelled on April 26, with 90 more cancellations on April 27. While the 5th line will be impacted by the block, the main Slow and Fast lines will remain operational, helping to limit the number of cancellations.
To manage the impact on services, Mail and Express trains that usually run on the 5th line will be diverted to the Fast lines during the block. However, the disruption will not be limited to local trains alone. Four long-distance trains will also experience operational changes. These trains will either terminate earlier than usual or originate from alternative stations such as Bhayandar and Vasai, instead of their usual terminus.
WR sources confirmed that the re-girdering work is essential for the planned augmentation of rail lines, which will support future growth and allow more frequent train services on this vital suburban route.
Passengers are advised to check the schedule for updates and to plan their journeys accordingly to avoid inconvenience during this crucial engineering operation.
