Mumbai Local Train Services Disrupted After Power Failure: Delays On Key Routes

Train services on the Central Railway (CR) were disrupted on Saturday morning due to a technical issue with Tata Power's supply to the railway network, as per the Hindustan Times (HT) report. This affected trains on the Kalyan-Kasara-Igatpuri and Kalyan-Karjat-Lonavala sections, covering more than 150 kilometres.

According to CR officials, the issue was caused by a fault in the electric supply conductor near Thakurli, which led to a system trip. Swapnil Nila, the Chief Public Relations Officer for CR, confirmed that the fault was due to Tata Power's failure.

However, Tata Power disputed the claim. A spokesperson from the company stated in the HT report, "There was no fault or issue from our side."

Following the fault, the power supply was redirected from other substations and power lines. A CR official explained in the same report, "The conductor from Tata Power faced a technical failure. One phase has been restored, and the second phase will be restored soon."

The power cut left trains without the necessary supply from overhead cables, causing them to stop completely. The disruption affected the Kalyan-Lonavala section from 6.05 am to 6.55 am, and the Kalyan-Igatpuri section from 6.08 am to 7.08 am.

Trains were delayed by 20 to 30 minutes. As the incident occurred on a Saturday, trains were not as crowded, but passengers still faced inconvenience. Mandar A, a resident of Dombivli, shared that trains on these routes were running late by around 25 minutes. Passengers turned to closed social media groups for updates, as there was no clear communication on the situation.
