Mumbai Local Train Service News: Dadar Station Gets New Platform Numbers

The recent renumbering of platforms at Dadar station, introduced on Wednesday morning, has led to confusion among passengers on the Central Railway (CR) line, as reported by Mid-day. Now, when fast local or express trains arrive, platform 9A will be on one side of the train, while platform 10 will be on the other. This is the first time a train will arrive on two different platforms simultaneously-9A on one side and 10 on the other.

Previously, platforms 9A and 10 were numbered simply as platforms 10 and 10A, respectively. The change has raised concerns among daily commuters, with some questioning the need for such frequent changes.

"Why make it more confusing unnecessarily? Just keep both as platform 10, as there is a single line between them. CSMT has platform 2, not 2 and 2A for either side of the line. It would make more sense to follow that system," said Nishant Singh, a regular passenger in the report.

Other commuters also voiced frustration. "We've only just gotten used to platforms 8, 9, 10, 11, and 12, and now this change. It's as though they don't think about the practical side of things. Imagine an announcement for a train arriving on platforms 10 and 9A-it sounds like school class divisions," said Khurshed Lawyer, another commuter in Mid-day.

However, CR officials explained that the renumbering is a result of the station's unique layout and the length of the platforms. Platform 10 (now 9A) is shorter, while the adjoining platform 10A (now 10) is longer and can accommodate 22-coach trains. This change is aimed at improving the clarity of platform announcements and making the station more efficient for passengers.

"Platform 9A will now exclusively serve suburban trains, while platform 10 will cater to Mail/Express trains, ensuring sufficient space for longer trains," said a CR official in the same report.
