Mumbai Local Gets Major Boost: 12 AC, 3 Non-AC Trains From February 19; Check Routes, Timings, Full Details

Commuters on Mumbai's Western Railway corridor are set to receive a significant boost in services as 12 new air-conditioned local trains and three additional non-AC services will begin operating from February 19.

The move comes amid rising preference for AC coaches, particularly during peak hours when regular compartments remain heavily crowded.

AC Services Rise To 133 On Western Line

With the latest addition, the total number of AC local services on the Western Railway will increase from 121 to 133. Overall suburban services on the Western line will rise marginally from 1,410 to 1,414 trains.

Weekend passengers are likely to benefit the most. The number of AC services running on Saturdays and Sundays will increase sharply from 77 to 106, offering greater comfort to leisure and long-distance suburban travellers.

Since AC locals were introduced, many daily commuters have shifted to these services for a smoother and less congested journey. Popular routes often witness full seating capacity during rush hours.

According to the Public Relations Department of Western Railway, "12 AC Local services are being introduced, of which 11 services will replace existing non-AC services, while o?ne will be a new AC service. In addition to this, three additional non AC services are also being introduced. A slow local service that is presently operating from Bhayandar to Bandra will operate from Virar, providing added convenience and improved connectivity for commuters."

Railway officials believe the enhanced services will ease crowd pressure on busy stretches and provide commuters with more travel options.

Route Changes And Service Adjustments

One key operational change involves an existing slow local currently running between Bhayandar and Bandra. From February 19, this service will originate from Virar instead, improving connectivity for passengers from the northern suburbs.

The replacement of 11 non-AC trains with AC services indicates a continued shift towards premium suburban travel, although three new non-AC trains are also being introduced to balance demand across categories.

There has been no announcement regarding any revision in ticket fares. As of now, AC and non-AC ticket prices are expected to remain unchanged.

Jumbo Block On February 15 For Maintenance Work

Ahead of the new schedule rollout, Western Railway has scheduled a four-hour jumbo block on Sunday, February 15, 2026, to carry out essential maintenance of tracks, signalling systems and overhead equipment.

The block will remain in force:

• From 10 am to 2 pm
• On the Virar Fast line
• On the 5th line between Ram Mandir and Borivali stations

During this period:

• Fast line trains will operate on the Slow or 6th line between Borivali and Andheri
• Trains scheduled on the 5th line will run on the Down Fast line between Andheri and Borivali
• Several local services in both directions will be cancelled
• Some trains between Andheri and Borivali will short-terminate at Goregaon on the Harbour Line

Passengers are advised to check updated schedules before travelling on February 15.

With more AC trains being introduced and operational adjustments underway, Western Railway aims to make daily suburban travel more efficient and comfortable for Mumbai's growing commuter base.
