Mumbai-Konkani Ro-Ro Ferry Service Set To Launch, Reducing Travel Times Significantly

The Maharashtra government is set to launch a new Ro-Ro (Roll-On, Roll-Off) ferry service connecting Mumbai to Konkan on September 1. The new Mumbai-Konkan Ro-Ro ferry offers a significant reduction in travel time. Travellers can now reach Ratnagiri in just 3 hours and Sindhudurg in 5 hours. This is a substantial improvement from the usual 10–12 hour drive, effectively cutting the journey time by more than half. The ferry provides an excellent solution for avoiding road congestion, especially during festivals like Ganesh Chaturthi and Holi.

Minister Nitesh Rane has indicated that this is only the beginning, with plans to extend services to Shrivardhan, Jaigad, Mandwa, and eventually Goa.

Ticket prices for this service are accessible: First Class costs ₹9,000, Business Class ₹7,500, Premium Economy ₹4,000, and Economy ₹2,500. Additionally, vehicle transport options are available: Cars at ₹6,000, Two-wheelers at ₹1,000, and Bicycles at ₹600.

This new coastal route is expected to be as effective as its predecessor in reducing travel times significantly. By offering various ticket classes and vehicle transport options, it caters to different traveller needs while enhancing convenience.
