Mumbai–Hyderabad Bullet Train Project: Check Route, Stations, Speed, Fares And More

Travelling from Mumbai to Hyderabad, a journey of over 750 kilometres, may soon take just three hours. This incredible leap is expected with the launch of the Mumbai-Hyderabad High-Speed Rail (MHHSR) project, a modern bullet train plan that aims to transform travel in Maharashtra and Telangana.

Mumbai-Hyderabad Bullet Train Features

Hyderabad Bullet Train

1. A Fast and Futuristic Journey

According to a Times Now report, the MHHSR corridor is proposed to cover 767 kilometres, connecting three important cities - Mumbai, Pune, and Hyderabad - through 11 well-chosen stations. This is the fifth high-speed rail route announced by the Indian government in 2019.

Although construction work has not yet started, preparations are moving ahead. Since October 2020, various tenders have been floated for necessary studies and surveys.

2. Speed Like Never Before

This high-speed train will run at an average speed of 250 km/h, with top speeds of up to 350 kilometres per hour. With only 11 stops and a carefully planned track, which will include elevated, underground, and at-grade segments, the train will be able to maintain high speeds for long distances. This will reduce the travel time to just three hours, compared to the current journey time of 14 to 16 hours by regular trains.

Take a Poll

The bullet train will run on a standard gauge track and is likely to start near Thane, following a path that connects with the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train corridor.

3. Modern Technology And Strong Safety

The bullet train will feature modern systems, such as Digital Signalling with Automatic Train Control (DS-ATC) and 25 kV AC overhead electric traction. Each train will be able to carry around 750 passengers.

To improve passenger safety, the trains will include an Urgent Earthquake Detection and Alarm System (UrEDAS). This system can automatically stop trains in case of an earthquake, providing extra protection during emergencies.

Mumbai-Hyderabad Bullet Train Station List

The 11 planned stations on the route are:

  • Bandra Kurla Complex, Mumbai
  • Navi Mumbai
  • Lonavala
  • Pune
  • Kurkumb/Daund
  • Akluj
  • Pandharpur
  • Solapur
  • Kalaburagi (Gulbarga)
  • Zaheerabad
  • Hyderabad

These stations have been carefully selected to ensure the train benefits both major cities and smaller towns along the way.

Mumbai-Hyderabad Bullet Train Fare

Although the final fare has not been announced, early estimates suggest that tickets will cost about 1.5 times the price of a first-class AC train ticket. This means passengers will enjoy a premium service at a reasonable cost.

Mumbai-Hyderabad Bullet Train Tenders

Several companies are already working to take the project forward:

  • Highway Engineering Magnitude Consortium - Data collection and project report surveys
  • PK Engineers - Traffic and passenger study
  • Translink Consultants - Alignment design
  • Monarch Surveyors - LiDAR scanning and final track alignment
  • Chetak Engineers - Utility and power surveys
  • Egis India with JS Environics - Social impact and resettlement planning
  • At the same time, environmental studies are in progress, and bids for assessment are under review.

Looking Ahead

The Mumbai-Hyderabad bullet train project represents a major step towards faster, safer, and smarter travel in India. Once completed, it will not only save time but also bring cities and people closer together.
