Mumbai-Goa Highway Update: Key Sections To Finish By 2026; Check The Complete Status Inside

The much-awaited Mumbai-Goa Highway is now expected to be completed by the end of 2026, according to Public Works Minister Shivendra Raje Bhosale. The minister revealed that key pending works, including the Mangaon-Indapur stretch, the collapsed flyover at Bahadur Sheikh in Chiplun, and the Sangameshwar-Lanja stretch, have been reviewed. Orders have been issued to speed up their completion.

The 439-kilometre highway has faced significant delays over the years, often becoming a topic of conversation during the monsoon season. Traffic jams and potholes have made life difficult for residents of the Konkan region.

As per Free Press Journal report, Bhosale explained that while the work in Sindhudurg district is complete, road-widening projects in Raigad and Ratnagiri districts have faced numerous challenges. These include land acquisition issues, environmental clearances, contractor inefficiency, legal disputes, and last-minute changes to construction plans. Former Public Works Minister Ravindra Chavan had previously promised that the road would be open before Ganeshotsav 2024, but the collapse of a girder on the Chiplun flyover further delayed progress.

Now, under the Mahayuti government led by Devendra Fadnavis, Bhosale has taken charge of the Public Works Department. He has personally inspected the incomplete sections of the highway and addressed major issues. Among the key concerns are the Chiplun flyover collapse, traffic congestion at Wadkhal Naka, and the need for alternate service roads and underpasses.

In an effort to resolve ongoing delays, the following steps have been taken:

1. Mangaon-Indapur Stretch: A new contractor will soon be appointed after the previous one was replaced.
2. Chiplun Flyover: The collapsed girder will be replaced at the contractor's own expense.
3. Sangameshwar-Lanja Stretch: Disputes between contractors have been resolved.
4. Kashedi Ghat Tunnel Work: Expected to be completed by May 2025.

The completion of these vital sections is expected to improve travel and ease traffic congestion for people using the Mumbai-Goa Highway.
