Mumbai Central Bus Stand Concretisation Begins: What Commuters Need To Know
The concretisation work at the pothole-ridden Mumbai Central Bus Stand will begin on December 23, as part of an effort to improve the station's infrastructure and minimise passenger inconvenience. The work is expected to take around two months, according to the Midday report.
To ensure smooth operations during this period, all buses, except those belonging to the Mumbai Central depot, will be rerouted to nearby bus stands, including Parel, Dadar, and Kurla Nehru Nagar. This phased diversion will help in reducing congestion and disruption at the Mumbai Central Bus Stand.
This project is part of a larger initiative to concretise 183 ST depots across Maharashtra, undertaken in collaboration with the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC). Approximately Rs 600 crore is being allocated for the project, which is designed to modernise bus stations across the state.
At the Mumbai Central Bus Stand, about 1,900 square metres will be concreted at an estimated cost of Rs 1.64 crore. The work aims to permanently address ongoing issues such as potholes, waterlogging, and dust, which have long affected passengers and bus operations.
Abhijit Bhosale, an MSRTC spokesperson, said in the report, "Every day, around 155 bus routes from outside Mumbai pass through the Mumbai Central depot, with lakhs of passengers arriving. To minimise inconvenience, these routes will be shifted to nearby bus stations like Parel, Dadar, and Kurla Nehru Nagar."
Once the concretisation work is completed, all bus routes will be restored to the Mumbai Central Bus Stand, ensuring a smoother and more comfortable experience for commuters. The completion of the project is expected to bring long-term improvements to the city's public transportation system.
