Mumbai-Bound Express Train Carries Over 1,200 Kg Beef; Gujarat Police Step In
At the Vadodara railway station, Gujarat Police confiscated a sizable shipment of beef weighing 1,283 kg from a parcel van of an express train headed for Mumbai, police revealed on Saturday. The Golden Temple Express was being used for the unlawful transportation of the meat.
Superintendent of Police (Western Railway), Vadodara Saroj Kumari stated that the cargo was made up of sixteen parcels that came from Amritsar, Punjab. Authorities confiscated the packages on Wednesday night after receiving a tip regarding the smuggling of prohibited meat.

The Surat Forensic Science Laboratory performed forensic testing on the confiscated shipment. An FIR was filed on Friday when the lab confirmed that the meat was, in fact, beef.
Section 325 of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS), which deals with mischievous activities that injure animals, and the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act have both been used in this instance.
Two people have been identified by the police as being involved in the shipment: Jafar Shabir, who was designated as the intended recipient, and Vijay Singh, who is accused of sending the packages. Both people are currently being tracked down, and efforts are being made to capture them, authorities said.
The Vadodara Railway Police emphasized that the seizure was the result of specific intelligence inputs regarding the illegal transport of prohibited meat products via railway networks. Investigations into the broader network behind the operation are ongoing.
