Mumbai Airport Turmoil: Know Why Air India Passengers Are Demanding Refunds
Passengers at Mumbai airport expressed their anger today after an Air India flight to Delhi was delayed by over two hours. The flight, scheduled to take off at 11:30 AM, had still not departed by 1:30 PM, leading to frustration among travellers.
Mirror Now shared visuals on X, formerly known as Twitter, from the airport showing passengers visibly upset with the delay. Many were seen speaking with airline staff, demanding answers and seeking refunds. Air India informed them that the delay was due to a technical fault and assured them that the flight would take off soon.

Similar Delays on Other Routes
This incident is part of a larger pattern of delays that have plagued Air India recently. Just earlier this month, an Air India flight from Delhi to Vancouver was delayed by nearly 22 hours. The flight was scheduled to depart at 5:30 AM on June 1 but did not take off until 3:15 AM on June 2. The source revealed to the The Hindu that the delay was initially caused by a technical issue, but the situation was exacerbated when the crew exceeded their mandatory Flight Duty Time Limitations.
An Air India spokesperson commented on the Vancouver flight delay, stating, "AI 185 was delayed because of technical issues and subsequently due to crew coming under the mandatory Flight Duty Time Limitations."
Technical Issues And Crew Limitations
Air India has experienced several such incidents recently. The airline, previously owned by the Indian government, was privatised and transferred to Tata Group in January 2022.
The recurring delays have raised concerns among passengers about the airline's reliability. Many are calling for better management and timely communication from Air India to avoid such inconveniences in the future.
These incidents highlight the importance of addressing technical issues promptly and ensuring adequate crew availability to prevent extended delays. Passengers expect timely updates and solutions when faced with such disruptions.
As Air India continues its operations under new ownership, it remains crucial for the airline to enhance its service quality and maintain passenger trust.
