Mumbai Airport Runways Closed For 6 Hours: Check Details

The Mumbai International Airport, also recognised as Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA), will undergo a temporary suspension of flight operations on Tuesday for the purpose of post-monsoon maintenance work on its two runways. The CSMIA has announced that flight operations will cease for a six-hour window, spanning from 11 am to 5 pm.

This scheduled temporary closure is part of CSMIA's annual post-monsoon preventive maintenance plan, aimed at ensuring the highest standards of airport infrastructure. Both runways, RWY 09/27 and RWY 14/32, will be non-operational on October 17 as part of this maintenance plan. CSMIA took the proactive step of issuing a Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) six months in advance to inform all relevant parties about this closure.

The decision to temporarily suspend flight operations is driven by the need to carry out necessary repair and maintenance activities, crucial for maintaining the airport's infrastructure at top-notch quality. This annual practice of post-monsoon runway maintenance is part of a series of meticulously planned activities that prioritize operational continuity and passenger safety, aligning with CSMIA's core commitment to putting passengers first.

CSMIA has collaborated with key stakeholders to effectively schedule flights, ensuring a smooth execution of the maintenance process. The airport authorities look forward to passengers' cooperation and support during this maintenance period.

It's worth noting that the Mumbai airport has experienced substantial growth in passenger traffic, with a 33 percent increase to 1.27 crore passengers in the September quarter. Compared to the pre-pandemic period in Q3CY2019, this growth represents a remarkable 109 percent increase in traffic, as reported by CSMIA. In the last quarter, the airport handled 60,861 domestic air traffic movements (ATMs) and 20,438 international ATMs.

In the year-ago period, the airport recorded a total passenger volume of 96 lakh.
