SpiceJet Flight Makes Emergency Landing In Mumbai After Wheel Detaches During Takeoff

A SpiceJet flight from Kandla, Gujarat, made an emergency landing at Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport on Friday after one of its outer wheels detached from the aircraft during takeoff. The flight, carrying passengers bound for Mumbai, landed safely, and no injuries were reported, according to an airline spokesperson. The wheel was spotted on the runway at Kandla airport shortly after departure, prompting the precautionary measures.

"On September 12, an outer wheel of a SpiceJet Q400 aircraft operating from Kandla to Mumbai was found on the runway after takeoff. The aircraft continued its journey to Mumbai and landed safely. After a smooth landing, it taxied to the terminal under its own power, and all passengers disembarked normally," the spokesperson added.

Mumbai Airport Statement

Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) confirmed that the SpiceJet aircraft made an emergency landing at 15:51 hrs on September 12, 2025, after reporting a technical issue.

"A full emergency was declared as a precaution. The aircraft landed safely on Runway 27, and all passengers and crew are safe. Normal operations resumed shortly after," the airport said in an official statement.

Recent Air India Incident

Earlier this week, an Air India flight from Mumbai, operating as AI 2910, aborted its landing at Delhi airport due to technical reasons. The aircraft successfully landed on its second attempt about ten minutes later. A passenger onboard stated that the pilot informed them the first landing attempt was halted because of technical glitches.
