Mumbai Airport Alert: No Flights Due To Pre-Monsoon Maintenance; Check Date And Timings Inside
Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) will remain closed to air traffic for six hours on May 9, as both its runways undergo essential pre-monsoon maintenance work. As reported by Lokmat, the Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL) shared this update on Saturday.
According to MIAL, the maintenance will take place from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM on the scheduled date. Both runways - 09/27 and 14/32 - will be shut down during this time for inspection and repair. The work is part of annual safety checks done before the start of the monsoon season. These checks ensure the runways are in the best possible condition for safe landings and take-offs during heavy rains.

The airport operator has already issued a Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) six months in advance. This gives all airlines and related teams enough time to adjust their flight schedules and inform passengers of any changes. Flights will not take off or land during the six-hour maintenance window, but normal services will resume immediately after the work is completed.
MIAL stated that this work is vital for maintaining the quality of air infrastructure at one of India's busiest airports. Experts will inspect surfaces, clear drainage paths, and carry out minor repairs if needed.
Located in India's financial capital, CSMIA handles a massive volume of domestic and international traffic. As per estimates, around 35 planes land every minute at the airport, with about 5,200 passengers arriving every hour. With such high traffic, ensuring smooth and safe operations during the monsoon is a top priority.
Passengers planning to travel on May 9 are advised to check with their airlines for rescheduled flights or delays.
