MLA Mahesh Shinde's Efforts Paving Way For Developmental Works Worth Crores In Koregaon
Educated young people are hesitant these days to enter politics. However, some have deliberately chosen politics as a career and achieved massive success. Shiv Sena MLA from Koregaon, Mahesh Shinde, is one such young leader.
Born to a school teacher, Mahesh Shinde is highly educated. His sister is a well-known doctor, and his brother is a farmer. Without any background or family support, Shinde ventured into politics. Relying on his academic qualifications and technical knowledge, he started a distillery. Gradually, he entered district council politics and was elected as a district council member, beginning his political career with the Nationalist Congress Party.

Spiritual Influence
After a few years, Mahesh Shinde retreated from public life and turned to spirituality, becoming a disciple of the revered Adrushya Kadsiddheshwar Maharaj of the Kaneri Math in Kolhapur.
This period brought profound changes to his life, and a calm, composed Shinde re-emerged onto the political stage of Satara district. Since 2014, he has laid a strong foundation in Koregaon taluka, organising the youth and focusing on social work.
In the 2019 Assembly elections, he was granted the Shiv Sena ticket for the Koregaon constituency and, in his first contest, narrowly defeated the strong NCP leader Shashikant Shinde.
Support for Eknath Shinde
During his initial term, the Shiv Sena faced internal party conflict. Mahesh stood with Eknath Shinde during his rebellion. Eknath's move was successful, leading to the fall of Uddhav Thackeray's government, and Mahesh quickly became a trusted ally of Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.
Noteworthy Work During the Pandemic
Despite the political upheaval, Mahesh Shinde paid particular attention to the development and welfare of his constituency, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. His work was widely recognised across western Maharashtra. He spent time in the villages and set up multiple COVID hospitals at his own expense, ensuring timely treatment for thousands.
Rs 700 Crore for Koregaon Town
Mahesh Shinde has shown a strong commitment to securing water for drought-prone areas. He prioritised the Jihe Kathapur Water Project, initially started to supply water to the drought-stricken Khatao taluka. The current MahaYuti government has also given special attention to this project.
Through Shinde's efforts, Koregaon town has received a budget of INR 700 crore, facilitating projects such as a government guest house, market complex, Tilganga riverfront, a world-class sports complex, and an auditorium.
Hundreds of Crores for the Entire Constituency
For the Khandala-Shiroli State Highway, Shinde obtained Rs 500 crore, and he secured an additional Rs 139 crore for the Deul Rahimatpur route. Altogether, he has brought in around Rs 3,500 crore for the Koregaon constituency, using these funds for development in each village.
This includes constructing roads, ensuring drinking water availability, providing electricity, and building community halls. Shinde also secured Rs 200 crore for constructing access roads within each village, making travel easier for farmers to their fields.
A Development-Focused MLA
In his first term, Mahesh Shinde has become recognised across Satara district as the only MLA who has secured such substantial funding and initiated extensive development work.
Residents of Koregaon still recall the work he did during the COVID-19 crisis. His focus on road concrete construction has earned him the nickname "Concrete MLA" in his constituency.
Facing Shashikant Shinde Once Again
For the 2024 Assembly elections, Eknath Shinde has once again given Mahesh Shinde the opportunity to represent the Koregaon constituency. He will be facing Shashikant Shinde of the NCP once again.
Following a defeat in the Lok Sabha elections, Shashikant Shinde's support base has diminished, with many of his workers joining Shiv Sena under Mahesh Shinde's leadership. Political analysts in Satara believe that this has made the upcoming election relatively easier for Mahesh Shinde.
