Mithun Chakraborty Faces BMC Action Over Unauthorized Structures In Mumbai

Actor and BJP politician Mithun Chakraborty has received a show-cause notice from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) for allegedly conducting unlawful construction work at his house in Erangle village, which is situated in the Madh region of Malad.

Section 351(1A) of the Mumbai Municipal Corporation (MMC) Act was used to issue the notice, which was dated May 10 and requires Chakraborty to provide a seven-day justification for the development. In addition to potential legal action, the owner may be responsible for the demolition of the aforementioned structure if no adequate justification is given.

The civic organisation claims that the actor's property was created without the required permits for the bottom floor and other flats, according to reports from the Free Press Journal. Two one-plus-mezzanine-story buildings, one ground-floor building, and three temporary structures composed of bricks, wood, glass, and air conditioning sheets are among the contested constructions.

The BMC's move is a component of a broader effort to stop unlawful building in the Madh region. According to reports, authorities have found 101 unlawful buildings in the area, including bungalows built using purportedly falsified paperwork. By the end of May, the civic organisation hopes to have all such constructions demolished.

These buildings were discovered during an inspection close to Hira Devi Mandir, according to a BMC official source, who also confirmed that they were carried out without official authority. The official added that infractions of MMC Act Section 475A could result in fines or possibly jail time.

Mithun Chakraborty responded to the accusations by rejecting any misconduct. "I haven't built anything without permission. Many people have received notices, and we are reacting appropriately," he stated.

Two ground-floor units with mezzanine levels and three temporary 10x10 structures, built with brick masonry walls, hardwood planks, glass partitions and AC sheet ceilings, were also mentioned in previous announcements. According to the BMC, these were created without prior approval.

Regarding his career, Mithun Chakraborty last appeared in the 2025 movie Shreeman vs. Shreemati. He is now working on the Telugu movie Fauji and Vivek Agnihotri's next project, The Delhi Files, both of which are scheduled for release in 2019. In 2024, he also received the Padma Bhushan in honour of his achievements to public life and film.
