Malabar Hill Walkway To Open Soon: New Date, Entry Fee, And Visitor Guidelines Inside

Mumbai's much-anticipated elevated forest walkway at Malabar Hill is set to welcome the public in February, following a delay from its initial January deadline, according to a Hindustan Times (HT) report. Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) Commissioner and Administrator Bhushan Gagrani announced the development, highlighting the walkway's unique features and operational guidelines.

The elevated walkway, built on wooden pillars, has a carrying capacity of approximately 400 people at any given time. However, safety remains a concern. "If the crowd isn't monitored at the entrance, the walkway could collapse. Controlling the crowd is therefore crucial," Gagrani explained in the HT report.

To ensure crowd management, an electronic system will be installed at the entry point. This system, expected to be operational within 15 days, will use scanners to monitor the number of visitors entering the walkway. Entry will be regulated with a nominal fee of Rs 10-15 per person. Additionally, restrictions on carrying food and drinks will be enforced, with the exception of water. This measure aims to avoid attracting monkeys and maintain the natural environment of the area.

The walkway trail meanders through 12 acres of lush greenery in the Malabar Hill forest, offering stunning views of the Mumbai cityscape and Girgaon Chowpatty. Visitors can look forward to a serene and immersive experience amidst nature, making it an ideal spot for recreation and relaxation.

This project is a collaborative effort between the Malabar Hill Citizens' Forum, Napean Sea Road Citizens' Forum, and IMK Architects, with funding provided by the BMC. It is expected to become a landmark attraction for nature lovers and residents seeking a peaceful retreat in the bustling city.

The elevated walkway represents a significant step towards promoting green spaces in urban Mumbai, combining sustainability with public recreation.
