Maharashtra’s Fourth Mumbai: A Mega City Rising Near Vadhan Port
The Maharashtra government has proposed the development of a fourth Mumbai near Vadhan Port, as per a Lokmat report. To facilitate this, the state plans to appoint a planning authority for an area of 512 square kilometres covering 107 villages. The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) has already submitted the proposal to the state government. Once approved, MSRDC will take charge of building the new city.
Boosting Mumbai's Economy
NITI Aayog aims to transform Mumbai into a trillion-dollar economy by establishing economic development hubs in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. The construction of the country's largest port in this area aligns with this vision and is expected to drive significant growth.
Development In Dahanu And Palghar
The Maharashtra government had previously assigned MSRDC to develop two economic hubs in Dahanu taluka's Kelwa area. As per the plan, 11 villages in Palghar were earmarked for development. Among these, Vadhan Development Centre was to be built on 33.88 square kilometres, while Kelwa Centre was planned for 48.22 square kilometres.
Expanding Boundaries To Talasari
MSRDC has drafted a plan to develop the fourth Mumbai across 107 villages, covering 512 square kilometres in the influence zone of Vadhan Port. This proposal was submitted to the state government in January. Sources within MSRDC have confirmed that the city's boundary will extend from the Vadhan Port area to Talasari.
Development Plan To Be Finalised In A Year
If the state government approves MSRDC as the planning authority, a comprehensive development plan for the proposed area will be prepared within a year.
Key Features Of The Fourth Mumbai
1. A logistics park to store goods arriving via Vadhan Port.
2. A five-star hotel to accommodate industrial visitors drawn to the port.
3. Recreation grounds, including golf courses, for entertainment.
4. Convention centres for business and corporate events.
5. A dedicated railway freight corridor for efficient and eco-friendly transportation of goods between Vadhan Port and the Delhi-Mumbai Dedicated Freight Corridor.
6. Plans for a helipad and airstrip to enhance connectivity and communication.
The ambitious project aims to strengthen Mumbai's position as a major economic hub, creating new opportunities for industries and businesses while boosting infrastructure in the region.
