Maharashtra: Will Vitthal Langhe's Development Agenda Secure Victory in Nevasa?
The Nevasa constituency in the Ahmednagar district is known as the birthplace of the saint, Dnyaneshwari. The world-famous Shani Shingnapur temple and the Devgad temple are located in this region. The only Mohiniraj temple in the world is also situated in this town. Known as a cooperative hub, this year's assembly election in Nevasa promises to be an interesting contest.

Looking at the history of the last four elections, no candidate has been re-elected twice from this constituency. This time, the contest is a triangular one, with Vitthal Langhe from the Shiv Sena's Shinde faction, the incumbent MLA Shankar Rao Gadakh from the Thackeray faction, and Balasaheb Murkute from the Prakash Janashakti Party. While a straight fight between the Maha Yuti and the Maha Vikas Aghadi was expected, this election is turning out to be a triangular contest. However, analysts suggest that Vitthal Langhe, riding on the development work of the Mahayuti government, may emerge victorious in the final moments.
A Constituency Opposed to the Ruling Party
Nevasa has a history of voting against unreliable and unpopular leaders. This constituency has defeated prominent leaders such as former MP Tukaram Gadakh, former MLA Balasaheb Murkute, Narendra Ghule, Vitthalrao Langhe, Marutrao Ghule, and Shankar Rao Gadakh at various points. The constituency is known for defeating even the ruling government's candidates.
The voters here often make their decisions in the final moments, leaving even seasoned politicians unsure of the outcome. Therefore, this election does not seem easy for the incumbent MLA, Shankar Rao Gadakh. Due to his one-track approach over the last five years, there is a growing sentiment of dissatisfaction among the public. However, many people are working behind the scenes, manipulating the strings of power, possibly in favor of the ruling party.
Historically, no MLA has been able to serve two consecutive terms in this constituency. Hence, it appears that MLA Shankar Rao Gadakh will have a tough time in this election.
Vitthal Langhe's Strength Backed by the Mahayuti
Vitthal Rao Langhe, who has previously served as the district president of both the NCP and the BJP, has a strong political presence in the region. He has also served as the President of the District Council, which has helped him build a good rapport with the electorate. His leadership during his tenure in these positions has led to significant developmental work. Langhe is expected to leverage this development work in his electoral campaign. Furthermore, since he was associated with both the BJP and NCP earlier, supporters from both parties are likely to rally behind him.
Development Projects by the Mahayuti
Under the leadership of the Mahayuti government, several development projects have been carried out in this constituency. The development of the Sant Dnyaneshwar temple, the birthplace of Dnyaneshwari, has received special attention during the Mahayuti's tenure. Approximately ₹850 crores have been allocated for the development of this pilgrimage site, with work underway. Given that the temple's development is part of the development blueprint, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde is expected to expedite this project. This could work in favor of Vitthal Langhe.
Capri Nala: A Key Development Project
The widening and deepening of Capri Nala, a project critical for six to seven villages, is underway during Chief Minister Eknath Shinde's tenure. The first phase of this project received ₹10 crore in funding under the leadership of former Shiv Sena MP Sadhashiv Lokhande. The second phase, worth ₹1.5 crore, is also progressing. This project is expected to benefit thousands of hectares of farmland in Jainpur, Belpandhari, Belpimplgaon, Ghogargav, Suregaon, and Panchkroshi. It is expected to benefit Vitthal Langhe as the Mahayuti's candidate.
World-Crafting Beneficiaries Expected to Support Langhe
Around 12,000 beneficiaries in the Nevasa taluka have benefited from the Mahayuti government's Vishwakarma scheme, which aims to support small industries and businesses. This large number of beneficiaries is likely to support Vitthal Langhe. Additionally, thousands of farmers in the region have benefited from the government's insurance schemes and the ₹13,600 per hectare aid given to farmers. These developments are expected to favor the Mahayuti candidate, Vitthal Langhe.
A Tough Battle for MLA Shankar Rao Gadakh
Given the above developments, it appears that incumbent MLA Shankar Rao Gadakh is facing a tough battle in this election. The Mahayuti's focus on development and the rising support for Langhe have made this race highly competitive.
