Maharashtra Rolls Out Portable Hospitals For Quick Medical Assistance
In a significant step to enhance emergency response in Maharashtra, the Medical Education Department is introducing portable hospitals to assist victims of accidents, according to a Lokmat report. These portable hospitals will be temporarily set up at accident sites, just like the army medical teams that are dispatched immediately when disasters occur.
The initiative will begin with four medical facilities: J. J. Hospital and government medical colleges in Nagpur, Nanded, and Kolhapur. These portable hospitals, which cost Rs 12.20 crore, will be funded by the Disaster Management, Revenue, and Forest Departments. After the Medical Education Department certifies its utility and requirements, twelve more hospitals may receive similar sets based on an evaluation report.
The portable hospital kits are designed for quick deployment. They are compact and require only 100 square feet of space, making them easy to transport, even by helicopter. The effectiveness of these kits will depend on the type of medicines and equipment included for use at the accident scene.
In addition to the portable hospitals, emergency medicine departments have been established in some medical colleges across the state. This development allows doctors specialising in emergency medicine to respond effectively, with assistance from doctors in other disciplines as needed.
As per the same report, Rajiv Nivatkar, the Commissioner of the Medical Education Department, highlighted the importance of this initiative in providing immediate care to accident victims. By having these portable hospitals on standby, the state aims to improve the chances of recovery for those injured in accidents and ensure timely medical assistance.
This innovative approach is expected to make a significant difference in emergency medical care in Maharashtra, reinforcing the state's commitment to protecting its citizens during emergencies.
