Maharashtra Police Beef Up Security Outside Uddhav Thackeray’s Residence After Threat Call

Mumbai Police on Monday beefed up security outside former Maharashtra Chief Minister and Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray's residence after the police control room received a threat call. Responding to the information swiftly, state police tightened the security and deployed extra force outside Thackeray house in Bandra (East).

According to the reports, the state police headquarters in Colaba reportedly received a threat call, wherein the caller identified himself as a passenger on a Mumbai-Gujarat train. The caller informed the police that he overheard 4-5 individuals from a particular community conversing in Urdu and plotting a significant act of sabotage near the residence of Thackeray.

The caller unidentified caller added that the suspects were also planning to rent a room in South Mumbai's Mohammed Ali Road.

However, the Police suspect that it could be a hoax call as the informer's phone has been switched off since he called the police.

Earlier, Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Museum in Colaba and the Nehru Science Centre in Worli received the threat through emails, after which, the museum authorities approached the state police to seek help. Taking cognizance of threatening emails, Mumbai Police filed cases against unidentified individuals.

"The email said bombs had been planted at more than eight locations in Mumbai, including the museum, the science center, and the Byculla Zoo. Separate emails were also sent to these institutions," an official had told news agency ANI.

Reports said Mumbai Police lodged cases under the Indian Penal Code's section 505 (1) (b), 506 (2), and 182 at the Colaba police station.
