Maharashtra Financial Fraud Cases: Over Rs 38,000 Crore Lost In 2024; Mumbai Leads With 51,873
Maharashtra witnessed a staggering 2,19,047 cases of financial fraud last year, with the total financial loss amounting to Rs 38,872.14 crore. According to data shared by the state Home Department, Mumbai recorded the highest number of such incidents, with 51,873 cases resulting in losses of Rs 12,404.12 crore.
Pune City came in second place, with 22,059 cases and Rs 5,122.66 crore in financial losses. The Pune district as a whole reported 42,802 cases, including 16,115 cases in Pimpri-Chinchwad, with Rs 3,291.25 crore lost, and 4,628 cases in Pune Rural, resulting in ₹434.35 crore in losses.

Thane district also saw a significant number of cases, with 35,388 reports of financial fraud. Thane city accounted for 20,892 cases, Navi Mumbai had 13,260, and Thane Rural reported 1,236 cases. The total financial loss in the district amounted to Rs 8,583.61 crore.
Mira Bhayander and Vasai Virar areas recorded 11,754 cases, with a total financial loss of Rs 1,431.18 crore. Nagpur City and Nagpur Rural reported 11,875 and 1,620 cases, respectively, with total losses of Rs 1,491.07 crore.
Nashik district reported 9,169 cases, with 6,381 in Nashik city and 2,788 in Nashik Rural. The financial losses in the district amounted to Rs 1,047.32 crore.
Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district recorded 6,090 fraud cases, involving Rs 543.61 crore, while Amravati district reported 2,778 cases, resulting in Rs 223.059 crore in losses.
Solapur district saw 3,457 cases, with a total loss of Rs 394.54 crore, while smaller districts such as Buldhana, Chandrapur, and Latur reported 1,531, 1,792, and 1,624 cases respectively, with losses of Rs 239.19 crore, Rs 175.39 crore, and Rs 240.45 crore.
Authorities have urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activities related to financial transactions to prevent further fraud.
