Maharashtra Government Doubles Income Limit For Economically Weaker Sections Under PM Awas Yojana
The Eknath Shinde government of Maharashtra has made a significant decision to help the economically weaker sections of the state. This move benefits more people under the PM Awas Yojana. In 2023, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde increased the income limit for the Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) from Rs 3 lakh to Rs 6 lakh.

This change ensures that more people can benefit from affordable housing provided under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. The Union Ministry of Urban Development and Housing supported this increase in the income limit to assist economically weaker sections. Now, those with slightly higher incomes can also buy houses in this category.
The PM Awas Yojana is aimed at both urban and rural populations. It helps those without a pucca house or a roof over their heads. People dreaming of building their own homes in Maharashtra can apply for a house under this scheme. The government provides financial assistance to the poor for building houses.
Additionally, there is a subsidy on home loans for low-income individuals. Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched this scheme on 25th June 2015.
