Maharashtra Declares December 6 As Local Holiday For Mumbai; Here's Why
The Maharashtra government has announced a local holiday for Mumbai and its suburban areas on December 6, 2024, in observance of Mahaparinirvan Diwas.
According to an official notification, the holiday applies to state government and semi-government offices within the region. This marks the third local holiday granted by the state government after those for Dahi Handi and Ganesh Visarjan.

On December 6, thousands are expected to gather at Chaityabhoomi in Shivaji Park, the cremation site of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, to pay homage on his 68th death anniversary. Located less than 2 km from Dadar station, the site becomes a focal point for remembrance ceremonies.
Special Train Arrangements
Central Railway has taken measures to accommodate the anticipated crowds with additional facilities:
- Special Suburban Trains: Twelve extra services-six each on the main line and the harbour line-will run on the nights of December 5 and 6.
- Help Desks and Security: Help desks and enhanced security arrangements have been established to ensure smooth transit for visitors.
