Maharashtra CM Race: Will Fadnavis Replace Shinde After BJP's Dominance?

The Maharashtra Assembly election results are nearing a definitive conclusion, with the BJP-led Mahayuti alliance securing leads in over 200 seats and poised to retain power in the state. The BJP alone is leading in 127 constituencies, sparking significant activity at Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis's residence, as he emerges as a strong contender for the Chief Minister's post.

Speculations are rife about Fadnavis's possible return as Chief Minister. The BJP state president has reportedly met with Fadnavis, intensifying discussions around his candidacy for the top position. Prasad Lad, a close associate of Fadnavis and a BJP MLC, has publicly supported his leadership, referring to him as a "Dharmayuddhadhari" and emphasizing his suitability for the role.

Maharashtra CM Race Will Fadnavis Replace Shinde After BJP s Dominance

As of the latest updates, the BJP-led Mahayuti alliance is leading in 213 seats, heading for a resounding victory. In contrast, the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) is trailing, with its candidates leading in just 63 constituencies. Meanwhile, 12 seats are being led by other candidates. The Mahayuti has not only crossed the majority mark but has also achieved a decisive lead well beyond it.

The BJP's dominance within the Mahayuti alliance makes it highly likely that the party will claim the Chief Minister's position. Reports suggest that Devendra Fadnavis is the frontrunner, reinforcing the BJP's leadership in Maharashtra. However, no official confirmation or announcement has been made yet. The political buzz surrounding Fadnavis's residence and the BJP president's visit to meet him has fueled speculation in political circles. The final decision now rests with the party high command.

Seat Distribution and Contesting Parties
In the Mahayuti alliance, the BJP contested 149 seats, Shiv Sena 81 seats, and the Ajit Pawar-led NCP fielded candidates in 59 constituencies. On the other hand, the MVA alliance saw the Congress contesting 101 seats, Shiv Sena (UBT) 95, and NCP (SP) 86 seats.

As the BJP inches closer to finalising its Chief Minister candidate, all eyes remain on the high command's decision, which will shape the leadership of Maharashtra for the next term.
