Maharashtra Chief Minister’s Medical Aid Unit: Eknath Shinde’s Milestone, Assisting 4 Million Patients

Getting quality medical treatment for critical illnesses and raising funds for it is a major challenge for common people. Many are forced to sell their land or jewellery, while some face financial ruin.

Thousands in Maharashtra avoid treatment due to a lack of funds, often succumbing to illness.

Eknath Shinde s initiative assisting 4 million patients

Recognising this serious issue, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde accelerated the work of the Chief Minister's Medical Aid Fund.

A special medical aid unit was set up to ensure this fund was easily accessible to those in need. The application process was simplified, providing immediate financial help to lakhs of needy patients. This initiative has become a milestone in Shinde's tenure.

The Chief Minister's Medical Aid Unit has brought the light of healthy living into the lives of thousands of patients across the state by offering excellent service.

The initiative has become a flagship scheme of the Maharashtra government, providing direct financial assistance to the poor and needy for costly surgeries.

Acknowledging the life-saving nature of this scheme, Shinde has instructed that no patient seeking help from the Chief Minister's Office should be left without assistance.

Revival Post-MVA Era

After assuming office, Shinde promptly reinstated the medical aid unit, which had been inactive under the Maha Vikas Aghadi government.

He appointed Mangesh Narasimha Chivate, who originally conceptualised the unit, as the Special Officer to expedite its work.

Chivate, deeply committed to healthcare, efficiently shouldered this responsibility, becoming a crucial support system for Maharashtra's poor. Since Shinde took charge, nearly 4 million patients have benefited from this scheme, with Rs 340 crores distributed in assistance.

New Diseases Added to the Scheme

The Chief Minister's Medical Aid Fund covers nearly 20 diseases, including angioplasty, bypass surgery, cancer surgeries, chemotherapy, dialysis, cochlear implant surgery for mute and deaf children, organ transplants, road and electrical accident treatments, and pediatric heart surgeries. Shinde has further expanded the list to include more conditions, enhancing the scheme's reach.

Free Registration Process

The process of obtaining aid is entirely free, and patients or their relatives can apply. A toll-free number, 8650567567, has been provided for assistance.

Those who do not benefit from schemes like Mahatma Phule Jan Arogya Yojana, Charity Hospitals, or the National Child Health Program are eligible for aid, provided their annual income does not exceed Rs 3.6 lakhs.

Special Attention from Eknath Shinde

To ease the application process, especially for those from rural areas, Shinde has introduced a simple missed-call mechanism. After a missed call to 8650567567, applicants receive an SMS with a link to download the form.

Once the form is filled and accompanied by the necessary documents, it is to be emailed to [email protected] or cmrf.maharashtra.gov.in in PDF format for further processing.

A Lifeline for the Poor

Under Eknath Shinde's leadership, several welfare schemes have gained momentum, including the revival of many initiatives that had stagnated during the MVA government.

Like the Ladki Bahin Yojna , which supports poor women, the Chief Minister's Medical Aid Unit has become a lifeline for needy patients, proving to be a godsend for many.
