Maharashtra Cabinet Ministers' List: Who Will Get Cabinet Berth In CM-Elect Devendra Fadnavis' Govt?

It is official. Devendra Fadnavis will once again take oath as the Chief Minister of Maharashtra.

12 days after the Mahayuti emerged victorious in the assembly polls, the BJP on Wednesday unanimously elected Fadnavis as the next Chief Minister of the state.

BJP leaders Chandrakant Patil and Sudhir Mungantiwar formally nominated Fadnavis as the party's legislative leader after the legislature meeting. "I nominate Devendra Saritatai Gangadharrao Fadnavis as the leader of the party's legislative wing," they said.

The meeting was presided by BJP's Central Observers for the state, Union Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and Vijay Rupani.

Fadnavis will take oath as the Chief Minister on Thursday. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and many other leaders are likely to attend the event.

Who Will Get What?

The distribution of cabinet portfolios among the Mahayuti alliance partners-BJP, Shiv Sena (Shinde faction), and the NCP (Ajit Pawar faction)-will be finalized after the swearing-in ceremony.

BJP to Retain Key Portfolios

The BJP, which is expected to secure 21-22 cabinet positions, is likely to retain control of significant portfolios such as Home and Revenue. Additionally, the party is set to keep the Speaker and Legislative Council Chairman posts, NDTV reported.

The Shiv Sena, which had sought 16 ministries, is likely to get 12 ministries, including the crucial Urban Development portfolio. The party is also aiming to secure the Legislative Council Chairman role while retaining its existing Deputy Chairman post.

The NCP is expected to claim 9-10 ministries, with the Finance portfolio among the key departments allotted to the party. It is also set to hold the Deputy Speaker position.

This arrangement underscores the power-sharing formula agreed upon by the Mahayuti partners as they prepare to assume office after their decisive victory in the recent Assembly elections. The coalition is poised to begin its new tenure with a strong mandate and a clear division of responsibilities.
