A day after the oath-taking ceremony, fresh sources reported on Friday that the Devendra Fadnavis government's first cabinet expansion in Maharashtra will likely occur either on December 11 or 12, with December 12 being the likely final date for the expansion.

Maharashtra's total Council of Ministers, including the Chief Minister, stands at 43, with the BJP holding 21 seats, Shiv Sena chief Eknath Shinde securing 12, and Ajit Pawar's NCP potentially receiving 10 ministerial posts. When the cabinet is expanded, around 30 to 32 MLAs are expected to be sworn in as ministers and inducted into the Council of Ministers.

Reports suggest the BJP will likely retain key ministries such as Home Affairs, Law and Justice, Construction, Energy, Irrigation, Village Development, Tourism, Revenue, Skill Development, General Administration, and Tribal Affairs.

Shiv Sena, led by Eknath Shinde, is expected to keep portfolios such as Urban Development, Excise, Social Justice, Environment, Mining, Water Supply, Industry, Health, Education, and PWD (MSRDC).

Ajit Pawar's NCP is set to retain Finance & Planning, Food & Supplies, FDA, Agriculture, Women & Child Development, Sports & Youth Welfare, and Aid & Rehabilitation.

Reports also suggested that the BJP intends to keep the Ministry of Home Affairs, while Eknath Shinde is likely to be given the Urban Development Department.

Meanwhile, Ajit Pawar has requested the Finance portfolio, but Devendra Fadnavis wants to retain both Finance and Home Affairs. The matter is still under discussion with Ajit Pawar.

Ongoing discussions are taking place regarding the allocation of departments such as Urban Development, Revenue, Tribal Affairs, Agriculture, Rural Development, Medical Education, and Women and Child Development. Some departments remain interchangeable, and a final decision will be made during the Mahayuti meeting.

The BJP intends to retain the positions of Speaker of the Legislative Assembly and Chairman of the Legislative Council.

Ajit Pawar is expected to be given the role of Vice-President of the Legislative Assembly, while Shiv Sena is likely to be allotted the Deputy Speaker position in the Legislative Council.
