‘It Is an Accident, Not Politics’: Sharad Pawar on Ajit Pawar Plane Crash

Senior NCP leader Sharad Pawar on Tuesday appealed to political parties and the public to refrain from turning the death of Ajit Pawar into a political controversy, stressing that preliminary assessments point to a tragic accident. Ajit Pawar was killed earlier in the day when his aircraft crashed while attempting to land near Baramati, sending shockwaves across Maharashtra.

Sharad Pawar said the incident has deeply affected not only the Pawar family but the entire state, and urged people to focus on mourning the loss and supporting those affected, rather than indulging in speculation. He acknowledged that questions were being raised by several opposition leaders but cautioned against drawing conclusions before investigators complete their work.

Responding to demands from leaders such as Mamata Banerjee, Mallikarjun Kharge and Akhilesh Yadav for a detailed inquiry, Sharad Pawar said calls for investigation should not be used to fuel political narratives. He reiterated that, so far, there is no indication of any political conspiracy behind the crash.

Pawar said he had met Vinayakrao earlier in the day and discussed the situation in detail. He also warned against the spread of misinformation, claiming that certain elements were deliberately trying to project the crash as politically motivated. "Some malicious forces are attempting to give this accident a political colour, which is completely baseless," he said.

In a video message, the former Union minister described Ajit Pawar as a dedicated and hardworking public figure, saying the loss was irreplaceable. "The damage caused by this tragedy cannot be compensated easily. The grief is not limited to one family; it is shared by Maharashtra and many others," he said.

Sharad Pawar concluded by urging restraint and sensitivity. "There is no politics involved here. This is a pure accident. I appeal to everyone not to politicise this tragedy," he said, underlining that respect for the dead and solidarity with the bereaved should remain the priority.
