Gokhale Bridge Construction On Track: Full Completion Expected By Early May 2025

The construction of the Gokhale Bridge, which connects the east and west parts of Andheri, is progressing rapidly. The bridge is expected to be fully completed by the first week of May 2025, and it will be opened for traffic in the second week of May, according to a Lokmat report. The Municipal Corporation's Bridge Department is overseeing the project.

Contractors were appointed in December 2022 to reconstruct the railway section of the Gokhale Bridge, which connects C. D. Barfiwala Road and N. S. Phadke Road. However, confusion arose due to a gap between the Gokhale Bridge and Barfiwala Bridge, creating challenges for the proper connection of the two bridges.

To address this issue, there were extensive discussions at the administrative level. As the cost of the bridge increased, the help of experts from the VJTI organisation was sought. After inspecting the situation, the experts suggested some solutions, and the municipality took the necessary measures. However, this led to an increase in the overall cost of the project.

The first phase of the Gokhale Bridge was completed in February 2024, and this section opened for traffic on February 26, 2024. Currently, only light vehicles are allowed to use this part of the bridge.

The work on the railway section in the second phase has also recently been completed. Additional Commissioner Abhijit Bangar has instructed that the work on the access road within the municipal limits be finished by the end of April 2025.

While the municipality initially expected the bridge to be completed by June 2025, the progress of the work has accelerated, and it is now expected to be completed in the first week of May. The bridge will be opened for traffic in the second week of May.
