Eknath Shinde’s Leadership Spurs Thane’s Growth: Major Infrastructure Projects in Full Swing

Under the dynamic leadership of the Mahayuti alliance in Maharashtra and the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Thane and its surrounding areas are undergoing a remarkable transformation, marked by significant infrastructure development. Since Eknath Shinde took oath as Chief Minister, the region has witnessed a surge in focused attention towards infrastructure projects, creating a multitude of employment opportunities and housing developments.

At the forefront of this developmental agenda is the ongoing work on the ambitious Kalyan-Dombivli-Taloja Metro line Line 12, a ₹5,600 crore project aimed at enhancing public transportation with 19 stations across the route. With operations expected to commence by 2026, this metro line will serve as a vital transit option for commuters in the region.

In addition to the metro line, major road projects are underway, including the 12-kilometer Airoli-Katai Naka Freeway that promises to slash the commute time between Navi Mumbai and Katai from 45 minutes to just 10. The Kalyan-Shilphata six-lane road, spanning 21 kilometers, is also expected to alleviate traffic for commuters traveling to Kalyan, Dombivli, Ulhasnagar, Ambernath, and Badlapur. Furthermore, the construction of new flyovers, such as the Palava (997 meters), Kalyan Phata (750 meters), Mumbra (810 meters), and Shilphata six-lane flyover (740 meters), aims to significantly improve traffic flow and reduce congestion.

Among the multitude of developments, the third phase of the Kalyan Ring Road project is progressing swiftly. Valued at ₹2,186 crore, this initiative will drastically decrease the commute time between Dombivli and Titwala from an hour to just 15 minutes. Additionally, the Mothagaon-Mankoli flyover, extending 1.25 kilometers, is set to facilitate smoother travel between Thane and Dombivli within a mere 15 minutes.

In the Ambernath industrial zone, a budget allocation of ₹204 crore is being utilized for extensive road development, aimed at easing congestion and enhancing connectivity. The Public Works Department has completed the first phase, consisting of 32 kilometers of newly surfaced roads in the Kalyan and Dombivli areas, alongside the addition of 31 kilometers in the Dombivli industrial estate.

Highlighting its future potential, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has prioritized 34 major infrastructure projects that are anticipated to reshape Thane into a pivotal hub within the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA). With an estimated investment of ₹4 lakh crore, these projects span a wide array of initiatives, including metro lines, expressways, and tunnels.

Among the standout projects is the proposed underground tunnel connecting Borivali and Thane, with an allocation of ₹8,900 crore, which will cut the current 21-kilometer journey time to just 30 minutes. Additional projects such as the Thane-Ghodbunder Road Corridor and the Thane-Mumbai Waterway aim to enhance connectivity further.

In anticipation of the upcoming state assembly elections, Chief Minister Shinde has inaugurated and laid foundation stones for numerous projects in Thane. He recently launched the first phase of a ₹100 crore beautification project for Railadevi Lake, aimed at enhancing the area's natural beauty and public accessibility. In a strategic move, Shinde has also announced the integration of 27 additional villages into the Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation, further expanding the region's infrastructure and governance.

The past two years have been a whirlwind of development for Thane city and its district under the Mahayuti alliance and the NDA government. As infrastructure projects continue to proliferate, Thane's role as a central hub within the MMRDA region is solidifying, setting the stage for a brighter, more connected future.
