From Office Attendant To Lawmaker: Astonishing Journey Of Shiv Sena MLA Dnyanraj Chougule

After Mumbai and Konkan, Marathwada has shown solid support for the Shiv Sena (Shinde), with ordinary Shiv Sainiks raising the saffron flag in former Congress and NCP strongholds.

Shiv Sena's influence among Marathwada's youth is evident. The region was deeply stirred by Balasaheb Thackeray's battle to rename Aurangabad to Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and his powerful Hindutva speeches, rallying thousands of young people under the Shiv Sena banner. Among them is Shiv Sainik Dnyanraj Chougule.

Dnyanraj Chougule started his journey as an ordinary office attendant and grassroots Shiv Sainik. As he worked within the party, he developed a passion for social work, gradually gaining recognition.

In 2009, after the redrawing of constituencies, the new, reserved Umarga Lohara constituency was created in Dharashiv district. Shiv Sena nominated Dnyanraj Chougule for this seat. Winning consecutive elections in 2009, 2014, and 2019, he demonstrated a firm hold on the constituency.

A Leader Connected to the Grassroots

In Dharashiv, Dnyanraj Chougule is known as a representative with strong grassroots connections and close ties with the people, an image he has built and strengthened over his three terms in office.

Supporting Eknath Shinde

Since 2019, Maharashtra, and particularly Shiv Sena, has seen several political upheavals, the most significant being a change in leadership.

Eknath Shinde led a rebellion against Uddhav Thackeray, joined by forty MLAs and eight ministers. The rebellion brought down Uddhav Thackeray's government and saw him lose control of the party and its symbol. Among Shinde's supporters was Dnyanraj Chougule.

A Close Ally of Shinde

After Shinde became Chief Minister, his bond with Dnyanraj Chougule grew even stronger. Known as a close ally of the Chief Minister, Chougule secured substantial funding for his constituency. Today, he is recognised as the MLA who has brought in the highest funding to Dharashiv.

He has directed these funds towards constructing village roads, cultural halls, and providing assistance across various needs, ensuring his continued popularity.

Significant Work During the COVID-19 Pandemic

Dnyanraj Chougule played a major role in supporting his constituents during the COVID-19 pandemic, ensuring timely medical treatment for hundreds. He also prioritised water conservation projects across his constituency, successfully implementing a scheme from Benitura to Sangam, which included the construction of 34 FRP dams.

This scheme received significant government funding, bringing approximately 68 hectares under irrigation and preventing 217,194 cubic metres of water from flowing into Karnataka.

Funding of Rs 425 Crores for Internal Roads

Chougule has also focused on urban development within the Umarga constituency, securing Rs 425 crore for internal road construction in Umarga, Lohara, and Murum. He obtained Rs 3.5 crore for a public crematorium in Umarga, serving both Maratha and Dhangar communities, and brought in Rs 8 crore for beautification efforts at various locations in Umarga.

Focus on Healthcare Facilities

Chougule has paid particular attention to healthcare in his constituency. He secured ₹6 crore each for modernising primary health centres in Makani and Kanegaon in Lohara taluka. He also played a key role in the modernisation of the Spash Rural Hospital in Sasur, which was upgraded to a sub-district hospital. Gunjoti Health Centre in Umarga taluka also received sub-district hospital status.

Dnyanraj Chougule is known as an MLA who maintains strong connections across all communities and remains active among grassroots residents. He is particularly close to local villages and hamlets, a factor his supporters believe will secure him a fourth term in the Legislative Assembly.
