Fabricated Case? Saif Ali Khan Stabbing Accused Seeks Bail

Accused of stabbing Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan and breaking into his house, jailed Shariful Islam has appealed for bail in Mumbai's session court claiming that he is innocent and it is a fabricated case.

The incident, which was aimed at robbery, took place on January 16, in which, Saif Ali Khan tried to catch the thief and he was stabbed multiple times before the assailant fled the scene.

The actor was immediately admitted to a city hospital, where he received treatment for five days and got a discharge on January 21.

Shariful Islam Shahzad's lawyer, in court, claimed that his client is innocent, stating that all allegations are baseless.

Islam was apprehended by law enforcement on January 19 in Thane, following an investigation.

The police arrested Islam on the basis of CCTV footage, which they got from Saif Ali Khan's apartment.

This case, which has caught the attention of both the media and the public, is currently progressing in the Bandra Magistrate Court. It is, however, expected to be elevated to the Mumbai Sessions Court jurisdiction soon, pending the filing of a charge sheet by the police. Until now, no charge sheet has been presented. In his defense, Islam has argued through his bail petition that the First Information Report (FIR) against him was unjustly filed and emphasizes his cooperation with the investigative process. He asserts that he poses no risk of interfering with the evidence, which includes crucial CCTV footage showing him at the scene and other forensic materials.
