Eknath Shinde Parody Row: Kunal Kamra to Appear Before Cops on March 31

Mumbai Police have asked stand-up comedian Kunal Kamra to appear for questioning on Monday i.e March 31 amid the massive row over his jokes on Shiv Sena leader and Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. The comedian had requested a week's time to appear before the police, but reports said no further extension would be granted.

The Mumbai Police, currently investigating the case, had summoned Kunal Kamra on Tuesday. However, the comedian requested a week's time to appear, which was denied on Wednesday, leading the police to issue another summons.

Despite the initial summons, Kunal Kamra remained defiant, posting a video on Tuesday featuring Shiv Sena workers vandalising the Habitat Comedy Club. The footage was overlaid with another satirical song from his comedy special.

In the clip, Kunal Kamra altered the lyrics of "Hum Honge Kamyaab" (We Shall Overcome) to "Hum Honge Kangaal" (We Will Be Bankrupt), while showing Sena workers ransacking the venue, hurling chairs, and scattering documents.

The video also included a snippet of Shiv Sena Yuva Sena General Secretary Rahool Kanal, one of the 12 individuals arrested for the ransacking. Referring to the incident, Kunal Kamra quoted a famous movie dialogue to ANI, suggesting that this act was just a "trailer" and that the "full picture" was yet to unfold.
