Eknath Shinde Government's Bold Steps to Strengthen Maharashtra's Internal Security

Mumbai is a city of great significance both for the state and the country. It is the capital of Maharashtra and recognised as the financial capital of India. Many major companies have their headquarters in Mumbai, and it is also home to several industrialists. Due to its importance, Mumbai often becomes a target for hostile nations and terrorists.

Eknath Shinde Government s Bold Steps to Strengthen Maharashtra s Internal Security

Over the years, Mumbai has faced multiple attempts to be targeted, including the 1993 bomb blasts, the railway bombings, the BEST bus bombings, the 2008 terrorist attacks, the chaos created by the Raza Academy, and the presence of sleeper cells. These incidents have resulted in the loss of hundreds of lives and injuries to many others.

Since 2014, however, there have been no such incidents. The MahaYuti government under the leadership of Eknath Shinde has paid special attention to internal security, taking proactive measures to prevent any terrorist activities in the city or state.

Crackdown on Malicious Elements

Certain areas of Maharashtra are known to be sensitive, with suspicions that local youth have connections with terrorist organisations. The state police and central agencies have consistently acted against these elements. Through coordinated efforts, several youths have been arrested, and their activities have been curtailed.

Effective Battle Against Naxalism

The districts of Gadchiroli and Chandrapur are known for Naxal influence. Many security forces have sacrificed their lives in the battle against Naxals in these regions. Eknath Shinde has given particular attention to the security of these areas. During the Uddhav Thackeray government, Shinde had taken up the role of the guardian minister for Gadchiroli. Under his leadership, the government has successfully dismantled Naxalism in the region, and many young Naxal sympathisers have turned to mainstream society.

The reduced Naxal threat has led to increased investment in the region by entrepreneurs, particularly in Eastern Vidarbha, creating new job opportunities and furthering the state's progress.

Empowering the Police Force

The Eknath Shinde government has focused on strengthening the police force. Modern facilities have been provided to police stations, and over 8,000 police personnel have been recruited during his tenure. The government has taken all necessary steps to ensure the police force is well-equipped to handle security challenges.

Combating Cybercrime

The nature of crime has shifted from armed violence to economic and online crimes. To tackle this growing threat, the police force needed to adapt technologically. Recognising this, Eknath Shinde's government has prioritised the integration of advanced technology into law enforcement. Recently, Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis inaugurated the Maharashtra Cyber Security Project in Mahape, which aims to reduce cybercrime and fraud. This project, equipped with state-of-the-art technology, is expected to build public trust by addressing digital fraud.

Annual Training for 5,000 Police Officers

The Cyber Security Project is not only a dream project but also a landmark initiative for the state. It aims to prepare law enforcement to deal with cyberattacks in the digital age. The centre has become one of the most advanced cyber security centres in the country. It will train 5,000 police officers annually to combat cybercrime and fraud, which are increasingly perpetrated through social media platforms like WhatsApp and Facebook.

Advanced Facial Recognition Technology

Maharashtra has seen a large number of criminals committing offences and fleeing to other states, only to return and re-offend later. To tackle this issue, the state has implemented advanced facial recognition technology to track such criminals. This system is being equipped with necessary tools to identify and apprehend offenders quickly.

Under Eknath Shinde's leadership, the state has made significant strides in tackling terrorism, organised crime, and Naxalism. With the enhanced capabilities of the police and the use of cutting-edge technology, Maharashtra is becoming increasingly secure for its citizens.
