Delhi-Mumbai Expressway Extension: Ujjain-Garoth Four-Lane Road To Cut Travel Time Significantly
The construction of the four-lane Ujjain-Garoth Highway is nearing completion, with officials confirming that 90 per cent of the work has been finished, according to a Times Now report. The remaining construction is expected to be completed within the next three months. Once fully operational, the highway will serve as a vital route, significantly reducing travel time between Ujjain and major cities such as Delhi, Mumbai, and Vadodara. It will also provide a direct connection to the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway.
According to officials, a railway overbridge in the Ujjain area and some minor work near Kheda Khajuria are still pending. Once completed, vehicles will be able to travel at speeds of up to 100 kilometres per hour. The Ujjain-Garoth highway project is being developed at an estimated cost of Rs 2,660 crore.

Even before its completion, the new road has already improved travel conditions for commuters. The project was launched by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) in November 2022 and was originally scheduled to be completed by July 2024, according to a report by the Times of India. However, delays occurred due to land acquisition and other challenges. To speed up construction, the project was divided into three sections, with different companies handling each segment.
The Ujjain-Garoth Highway passes through 89 villages, including 13 in Ujjain, 10 in Ghattiya, 20 in Mahidpur, 11 in Barod, 3 in Dag, 11 in Gangdhar, 10 in Suwasara, 7 in Shamgarh, and 4 in Garoth. Work in Mandsaur district has already been completed. Once the entire highway is operational, the journey between Ujjain and Garoth will be reduced to just 1 to 1.5 hours, benefiting thousands of commuters daily.
