Dadar Station Revamp Moves Forward: What Phase Two Has In Store For Commuters
The renovation of Dadar railway station has officially progressed to its second phase. This significant development comes in response to issues initially highlighted by a mid-day report, which shed light on the overcrowding problems faced by commuters at the station. With the first phase successfully completed, the focus now shifts to the expansion of platform nine and the construction of an elevated deck above it.
Phase One Achievements
In the initial phase of the project, the narrow slow line platform was widened to better accommodate the heavy footfall. Additionally, platforms 10 and 11, which serve fast trains, were converted into double discharge platforms.

This change allows passengers to board trains from both sides, effectively reducing congestion during peak hours. A key element of the first phase was the removal of all stalls on platform 10, which played a crucial role in managing the crowd more efficiently.
The Next Steps
With these improvements in place, phase two will focus on further expanding platform nine, which is situated at the Mumbai CSMT end. The current platform ends abruptly due to the presence of the Government Railway Police (GRP) station, a toilet block, some debris, and a small garden. The upcoming work will involve relocating the police station and the other obstructions, thereby creating a seamless, wider platform.
An elevated deck is also planned to be constructed above platform nine, adding more space for passengers and easing movement within the station. Similar efforts were made at Thane station, where platform 5/6 was widened by 2 to 3 metres during a challenging 63-hour block, demonstrating the potential benefits of such expansions.
Key Elements Of The Plan
1. Relocation of Utilities: Existing utilities, including the GRP station and toilet block, will be moved to facilitate the platform's expansion.
2. Removal of the Garden Patch: The small garden at the platform's end will be cleared to provide additional space.
3. Platform 9 Expansion: The platform will be widened to improve passenger movement and safety.
4. Elevated Deck Construction: A deck will be built above platform nine, creating more space for commuters and improving overall station infrastructure.
As phase two progresses, commuters can look forward to a more spacious and efficient Dadar station, making their daily travels smoother and more comfortable.
