CSMT Railway Station To Upgrade Security With 150 Smart Scanners—Here’s What To Expect
Central Railway has announced the installation of 150 high-tech baggage and body scanning machines at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) to improve passenger security, according to a Lokmat report. A tender has been issued for the purchase of seven baggage scanners and 143 body scanners. The installation is expected to take about 18 months.
CSMT, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, handles approximately 11.5 lakh passengers daily. Security at the station is currently managed by Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel. However, in recent days, concerns have been raised about passenger safety due to the malfunctioning of existing security machines. The decision to introduce new scanners aims to address these issues and strengthen surveillance.

The baggage scanners will have the ability to detect 32 types of items, including those considered highly dangerous during rail travel. As many long-distance passengers carry heavy luggage, the new security system will help monitor their belongings more effectively.
CSMT Railway Station: No Restrictions On Entry
There are over 100 entry points at CSMT, making it difficult to regulate passenger movement. However, these advanced machines will allow authorities to monitor passengers without imposing restrictions. Security personnel will continue to assist in ensuring a safe travel environment.
