Congress Announces 4 Candidates For Maharashtra, 2 For Jharkhand Assembly Elections 2024
The Congress party unveiled a list of six contestants for the forthcoming assembly elections across Maharashtra and Jharkhand.
For Maharashtra, the Congress has announced four contestants: Madhurimaraje Malojiraje Chhatrapati for Kolhapur North, Sajid Khan Mannan Khan for Akola West, Heera Devasi for Colaba, and Chetan Narote for Solapur City Central. This brings the total number of Congress candidates announced for Maharashtra to 102 out of 288 Assembly seats.

In Jharkhand, the party has put forward Sweta Singh to contest from Bokaro and Ajay Dubey from Dhanbad, marking the completion of its candidate selection with a total of 30 hopefuls for the state's assembly elections. This announcement comes after the party previously released two lists comprising 21 and seven candidates. With these lists, the Congress aims to reinforce its presence and challenge its opponents in the fiercely competitive political landscape of these states.
The Maharashtra and Jharkhand assembly elections are poised to be imporant moments for the Congress party, which is part of the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance in Maharashtra, alongside Shiv Sena (UBT) and Sharad Pawar's Nationalist Congress Party (NCP). This alliance has declared candidates for 268 seats, with Shiv Sena (UBT) and NCP (SP) fielding candidates in 84 and 82 seats respectively, indicating a comprehensive strategy to maximize their electoral impact. The Maharashtra Assembly elections are scheduled for November 20, with the counting of votes for all 288 constituencies slated for November 23, setting the stage for a closely watched electoral showdown.
The political landscape in Maharashtra and Jharkhand during the last assembly elections provides a context for the current electoral strategies. In the 2019 Maharashtra assembly elections, the BJP secured 105 seats, the Shiv Sena won 56, and the Congress managed 44 seats. This was a slight improvement for the Congress from the 2014 elections, where they secured 42 seats, indicating a fluctuating political scenario that the party aims to capitalize on this time around.
Meanwhile, the Congress-Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) alliance, which has governed Jharkhand since 2019, looks to maintain its foothold in the state. The Jharkhand assembly elections will unfold in two phases on November 13 and November 20, with the JMM winning 30 seats, the BJP 25, and the Congress 16 in the previous election, setting an interesting precedent for the upcoming electoral battle.
The counting of votes for both the Maharashtra and Jharkhand assembly elections is scheduled for November 23, a date that holds the key to the political future of these states
