Maharashtra: Congress Faces Setback in Daryapur as Shiv Sena Fields Strong Candidate Adsul

In the Daryapur constituency, which has a reserved seat, the Shiv Sena faction led by Eknath Shinde has fielded Capt Abhijit, son of two-time Amravati MP Anand Adsul and former MLA,. This is Adsul's third attempt to contest the elections in this constituency. He was previously elected as an MLA in 2009 but lost in 2014. In the last election in 2019, the constituency was won by the BJP.

Now, for the third time, Shiv Sena has reposed its trust in Adsul. The Thackeray faction has fielded Gajanan Lavate in the constituency. The announcement of the candidature by the Thackeray faction has come as a shock to the Congress, which was hoping to win this seat. Now, it remains to be seen whether Adsul can win this time, with the anger within the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) and the development work done by the Mahayuti coalition over the last five years.

Daryapur's Electoral Calculations:

In Daryapur, the Mahayuti's candidate is Shiv Sena's Abhijeet Adsul, while the Thackeray faction has fielded Gajanan Lavate. Former MLA Ramesh Bundile from the Yuva Swabhimaan Party is also in the race. Initially, Ramshwar Abhyankar, who switched from RPI to Congress, and businessman Gunwant Devpare from Nagpur were considered strong contenders for Congress. There was also speculation about social activist Vijay Vilhekar's name, but after Shiv Sena announced its candidate, attention has shifted to how the Congress candidates will react. Many believe the Maha Vikas Aghadi's name recognition will be advantageous to the Mahayuti candidate.

The Influence of Abhijeet Adsul's Family:

Abhijeet Adsul has a strong foothold in the constituency, having previously served as the MLA. Moreover, his father, former MP Anandrao Adsul, has been given the position of Chairman of the State Scheduled Tribes Commission by the Mahayuti, which strengthens Adsul's position. Additionally, Mahayuti has undertaken significant development work in the constituency, which further tilts the scale in Adsul's favor.

Government's Focus on Amravati:

Amravati district is known for high production of cotton, tur, and soybeans, but lacks industries to process them. This has resulted in limited job creation, with raw materials being sent out of the district. As a result, farmers are forced to sell their produce at very low prices. There has been a strong demand for setting up processing industries to address these issues. The Mahayuti government has now taken this seriously and is working to bring new industries to the area, including textile and other industries for Anjangav and surrounding areas. This move is expected to benefit Abhijeet Adsul.

New Industries Announced by Mahayuti:

New industrial projects have been announced in the Saturna, Badnera region of Amravati. A textile park was set up in 2021, and 30 industrial projects have been announced. Currently, 11 industries are operational, including Shyam Indofab, Ceyaram, Raymond, VHM, and Dhanlaxmi, with 19 more expected soon. Previously, cotton mills existed in the region, but they no longer function. The government is also planning to restart sugar factories in Anjangav Surji and Chandur railway.

Reliance on Women Beneficiaries for Mahayuti:

In Daryapur, several government schemes have benefited thousands of beneficiaries. One of the most successful is the "Ladki Bahin Yojana," which has around 46,000 women beneficiaries in the region. The Mahayuti expects good responses from these beneficiaries during the election. Additionally, Abhijeet Adsul has previously worked to ensure government schemes reached every household, which may help him in the upcoming election. With the Thackeray faction's sudden announcement of their candidate and the Mahayuti's organized campaign, Adsul is currently seen as the strong contender.
