Coastal Road Restrictions: What You Need To Know About The Latest Changes

The municipal administration has announced that the traffic on the southern side of the Coastal Road will continue to operate from 7 am to midnight, seven days a week. Outside of these hours, the road will be closed to traffic. This update follows the recent 24-hour traffic access granted during Ganeshotsav, which lasted from September 6 to 18.

The Coastal Road (South Channel) project stretches from the Shamaldas Gandhi Marg (Princess Street) flyover to the Worli end of the Bandra-Worli Sea Link. The southbound lanes will serve traffic from Bindumadhav Thackeray Chowk, Rajni Patel Chowk (Lotus Junction), and Amersons Udyan to Marine Drive. Meanwhile, the northbound lanes will cater to traffic from Marine Drive, Haji Ali, and Rajni Patel Chowk (Lotus Junction) to the Bandra-Worli Sea Link (Rajiv Gandhi Sagari Setu).

As the remaining construction work on the Coastal Road progresses swiftly, the municipal authorities have urged drivers to adhere to speed limits and traffic regulations to ensure smooth and safe travel.

Progress Of The Coastal Road Project

1. The Coastal Road Project, covering a total length of 10.58 km, includes embankment roads, bridges, and elevated roads. The project is 92 per cent complete so far.

2. The project features interchanges at Amersons, Haji Ali, and Worli, facilitating smoother traffic flow in these busy areas.

3. Two underground twin tunnels, each 2 km in length, have been built to carry traffic between South and North Mumbai. In addition, a 70-hectare green space is being developed as part of this project.

Traffic Regulations And Safety Instructions

The transport department has issued a strict warning regarding traffic rules on the Coastal Road. Stopping vehicles, dropping off passengers, taking photographs, and filming are strictly prohibited along this route. Violators will face legal action if found breaking these rules.

Drivers are advised to follow all guidelines to avoid penalties and ensure a safe driving experience on the Coastal Road.
