Class XI Admissions 2024: Students Await Third Merit List As College Seats Still Up For Grabs

As students eagerly anticipate their future academic paths, the third merit list for Class XI online admissions is set to be released on Monday. This list will determine whether students will secure a spot in their preferred colleges.

This year, there are 4,725 seats available for Class XI admission. Out of these, admissions have been confirmed for 1,13,849 seats across the first two rounds. However, there are still 2,86,876 seats vacant. This includes 1,70,000 seats under central admission and 1,16,728 seats under quota admission.

The situation has been challenging for many students. While 73,000 students were selected in the second round, only 25,000 managed to secure admissions. Many students have been placed in colleges other than their preferred choices due to limited availability.

Preference For Streams

The cut-offs for popular streams such as Commerce and Science have increased. Students tend to favour Commerce, followed by Science, which has led to higher cut-offs in renowned colleges such as Ruia, Podar, KC, Vaze Kelkar, St. Xavier's, and Mithibai. Students with scores between 80 and 90 per cent might find it difficult to gain admission to these prestigious institutions.

Will Cut-Offs Drop?

Most leading colleges had cut-offs above 90 per cent in the first list, with little change in the second list. With cut-offs for reputed colleges ranging between 85 and 92 per cent, many students are disappointed. As the third merit list approaches, both students and parents are keenly watching to see if the cut-off marks will decrease, offering hope for those who have yet to secure a place.

Students Who Missed Their Chance

Students who were admitted to their first-choice college but rejected it in the second list, or cancelled their admission, will not be eligible for the third list.

The merit list for students on the waiting list for quota admissions was announced on July 19. These students will need to complete their admissions between July 22 and 24.

The outcome of the third merit list will be crucial in determining the final admission outcomes for many hopeful students.
