Central Mumbai Local Train: Main Line Services Disrupts, Signals System Glitch

Early on Thursday morning, a malfunction in the signalling system near Vikhroli station disrupted suburban train operations along Mumbai's Main line, leading to significant overcrowding at various stations and considerable inconvenience for commuters during peak hours.

According to railway officials, the technical issue occurred on the UP (Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus-bound) fast line around 7 am, causing delays of up to an hour for some local trains, as per PTI reports.

Taking To X, formerly known as Twitter, Rajneesh Goyal, the divisional railway manager of Central Railway's Mumbai division, acknowledged the disruption caused by the technical fault at the UP through line near Vikhroli station, resulting in delays in local train schedules. He later confirmed that the problem was resolved by 8:05 am.

Commuters reported delays ranging from 20 to 30 minutes on suburban services, exacerbating overcrowding both on trains and at stations during the busy morning rush. As a consequence of the prolonged delay in CSMT-bound fast trains, frustrated passengers resorted to unconventional methods such as walking along tracks to reach the nearest station and continuing their journey using alternative transport options, as reported by PTI.

The disruption prompted strong reactions from affected commuters, reflecting widespread dissatisfaction with the punctuality of Central Railway services. One commuter, Mandar Abhyankar, expressed his frustration on social media, highlighting the chronic delays and lack of timely announcements regarding platform changes or cancellations.

Central Railway operates an extensive network of over 1,800 suburban services daily across Raigad and Thane districts outside Mumbai, serving more than 30 lakh commuters.
