BMC Water Cut: Mumbai To Experience 24-Hour Water Supply Halt

Mumbai is set to face a significant water supply disruption for 24 hours, affecting numerous parts of the city. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has scheduled this interruption from 11:30 am on May 24 until 11:30 am on May 25.This move is essential for facilitating construction work on the Mulund Goregaon Link Road (GMLR) flyover, specifically to divert an existing 1200 mm-diameter water main that currently poses a hindrance. The affected regions include N Ward, S Ward, and T Ward, with several areas within these wards experiencing a temporary halt in their water supply.

Among the areas impacted are Vikhroli Village (East), Godrej Properties, Godrej Hospital, Nahur (East), Bhandup (East), Kanjur (East), and multiple complexes and roads within Mulund-Goregaon Junction. Residents are advised to prepare by storing sufficient water for the duration of the disruption.

Additionally, the BMC recommends boiling and filtering water for 4 to 5 days post-restoration as a precautionary measure.

The diversion project, commencing from Fortis Hospital to Udyog Shetra, Mulund (west), is being carried out by the water supply authority in collaboration with the GMLR department. This initiative is crucial for the ongoing construction of the GMLR flyover and aims at ensuring that the water supply infrastructure does not interfere with urban development projects. Residents of the affected wards are used to specific water supply timings, which will be disrupted on May 25.

In N Ward, for instance, water is usually available from 3:30 pm to 11:30 am, while in T Ward, residents enjoy 24x7 water supply availability. The BMC's notice to citizens to conserve water and take necessary precautions highlights the importance of preparedness in minimizing inconvenience during such infrastructure enhancements.

As Mumbai prepares for this temporary inconvenience, the focus remains on the long-term benefits of urban development projects such as the GMLR flyover. By taking proactive measures to store water and adhere to safety recommendations, residents can navigate this period with minimal disruption to their daily lives.
