BMC Elections 2026: Winners List For Mumbai Polls Is Here

Supporters across Maharashtra erupted in celebration on Friday as early trends from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections pointed to decisive leads for candidates in several wards. Congress leader Asha Deepak Kale secured a notable win in Dharavi's Ward 183. Expressing gratitude, Kale credited her success to the backing of MP Varsha Gaikwad and MLA Jyoti Gaikwad, calling the victory "a triumph of party workers."

In Jalgaon's Ward 19, BJP's Rajendra Ghuge Patil emerged victorious. He highlighted the strength of the Mahayuti alliance, noting that two candidates were elected unopposed while he and Shiv Sena's Nikita Vanjari clinched wins. Vanjari, celebrating her success, thanked party workers for their unwavering support.

Meanwhile, in Mumbai's Mankhurd area, BJP's Navnath Ban captured Ward 135, sparking jubilant scenes among his supporters.

Mahayuti Alliance Expands Lead

Preliminary data showed the Mahayuti alliance-comprising the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena-pulling ahead in Mumbai. Together, the alliance was leading in 117 wards, with BJP ahead in 86 seats and Shinde's Shiv Sena in 31.

The Shiv Sena (UBT) alliance crossed the 68-seat mark, with UBT candidates leading in 58 wards, the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) in 9, and the NCP (SP) in 1. Ajit Pawar's NCP also registered a lead in one ward. The Congress, however, struggled, showing leads in only 10 wards.

Among individual contests, UBT's Foram Parmar trailed in Ward 1, while Gita Bhandari led in Ward 32. Shinde's Shiv Sena candidate Varsha Tembelkar was ahead in Ward 51.

Voter Turnout Declines

The civic body reported a 52.94 per cent voter turnout, lower than the 55.53 per cent recorded in the 2017 elections. Officials confirmed the final figures more than 15 hours after polling concluded.

Ward 114 in suburban Bhandup registered the highest turnout at 64.53 per cent, while Ward 227 in Colaba, South Mumbai, recorded the lowest at 20.88 per cent. Out of over 1.03 crore eligible voters, more than half cast their ballots between 7:30 am and 5:30 pm on Thursday.

A Crucial Political Contest

The election to the 227-member BMC, India's wealthiest municipal corporation with a budget of ₹74,400 crore, is being closely watched. Nearly 1,700 candidates are contesting, making it one of the most competitive civic polls in recent years.

The last BMC elections were held in 2017, and the term of the elected body ended in March 2022. The long gap has heightened the stakes, with parties vying for control over Mumbai's civic administration, a key political battleground in Maharashtra.
