Bandra Kurla Complex Traffic Snarls: Bharat Diamond Bourse Pushes For Infrastructure Overhaul
The Bharat Diamond Bourse (BDB) has raised concerns about significant congestion issues in the Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC). On Monday, the BDB formally addressed a letter to the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), urging them to tackle the pressing infrastructure and traffic problems in Block G of BKC.
The letter, addressed to MMRDA Commissioner Sanjay Mukherjee, highlighted the severe impact on daily operations due to these challenges.

"With an average daily footfall of 80,000 and a vehicular influx of 9,000, we are compelled to highlight the critical infrastructure challenges that are adversely impacting our operations," the BDB stated. The ongoing metro construction has significantly reduced the available road space, resulting in frequent traffic jams.
State Minister Mangal Prabhat Lodha also wrote to the MMRDA on Monday, stressing the urgency of addressing this problem. "As the guardian minister of Mumbai suburban district, I have been discussing this issue with concerned citizens and officials for the past six months," Lodha wrote.
He recommended that the MMRDA reintegrate bicycle lanes with the roads and create a separate, safe cycling track in BKC. Additionally, he urged the MMRDA to optimise the placement of barriers used for metro work to minimise their spatial footprint.
He also suggested the introduction of special bus services from Bandra station to BKC to alleviate the overcrowding of taxis and autorickshaws.
Both the BDB and Minister Lodha emphasised the necessity of immediate action to improve the infrastructure and ease the congestion in BKC, ensuring smoother operations for businesses and better commuting conditions for the public.
